100 dwelling units of a slum gutted in Jamshedpur

Over 100 dwelling units were reduced to ashes after a fire broke out in slum locality of Chayanagar under Sitaramdera police station here on Sunday.

Four fire-tenders have been pressed into service to douse the flame that spread in the area soon, fire-brigade sources said.

The exact cause behind the fire could not be ascertained as yet, the sources said adding that more fire fighters from Tata Steel and Tata Motors were asked to rush to the spot.

Dalbhum Sub-divisional Officer Subodh Kumar said he was informed about the fire and rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.

"While four fire-fighters have already been pressed into the service, we have also asked more to send and alerted the Red Cross and defense personnel", Kumar said.
