11 held for violence as Bellary shuts down
Eleven men were arrested for resorting to violence during a shutdown to protest against the arrest of former minister and mining czar G Janardhan Reddy, but eleventh-hour
instructions by state unit president K S Eshwarappa forced the district unit to pull out of the strike here on Tuesday. With leaders of the district unit retreating from day-long protests, it was left to fans of Mr Janardhan Reddy to organise demonstrations and force government offices, banks and business establishments to pull down the shutters. Scores of young men took to the streets.
