11, including 3 cops, hurt in blast triggered by Ulfa
At least 11 persons, including three policemen, were critically wounded in a bomb blast triggered by suspected Ulfa rebels at Doom Dooma, in Upper Assam’s Tinsukia district, on Thursday.
The district superintendent of police, Mr P.P. Singh, told this newspaper that outlawed Ulfa rebels are suspected to have been involved in the improvised explosive device blast in which at least three persons were critically wounded.
Mr Singh, who was on his way to Doom Dooma, said, “It seems to be the handiwork of outlawed Ulfa rebels. The outfit has been trying to strike but many of their attempts were foiled in the past few days.”
He said the number of those injured may rise. The incident took place at about 6.30 pm. Security sources, however, said that at least 11 persons, including two policemen, were critically wounded in the IED blast, which was triggered near a police checkpost in a crowded locality.
Security sources said two policemen who were critically wounded have been shifted to Dibrugarh Medical College Hospital.
