11-year-old dies due to ‘ragging’
Ragging and alleged medical negligence resulted in the tragic death of an 11-year-old girl, while two students of Jadavpur University were expelled for ragging an IT student from Darjeeling.
Oindrila Das, a student of Class 5 in Christ Church Girls’ High School in Dum Dum, was allegedly locked up in the school toilet by three senior students, who were demanding `100 from her. The sweeper heard her screams and rescued her.
“My daughter was deeply traumatised and terrorised. She fell ill and we took her to a child specialist. She never told us what was troubling her but she told the doctor how three senior girls of her school were torturing her and how they were trying to extort `100 from her,” Oindrila’s mother Rekha Das said.
The family of the deceased also pointed finger at the psychiatrist, who later treated her, alleging she died due to medical negligence. “My daughter was given an injection despite being in a critical condition. Soon after that her condition deteriorated,” Ms Das alleged.
