12 K’taka BJP MLAs quit
The six-month-old government of Karnataka chief minister Jagadish Shettar was pushed to the edge of the precipice as Speaker K.G. Bopaiah accepted the resignations of a dozen BJP legislators, all supporters of Karnataka Janata Party leader B.S. Yeddyurappa, on Tuesday night.
With these resignations, the strength of the BJP fell to 106 (including Independent MLA and minister Varthur Prakash) while the total strength of the Assembly was reduced to 210). Former ministers Shobha Karandlaje and C.M. Udasi, among those who quit Saturday, told reporters that some more legislators would resign soon.

Skull may be of jatin-lalit’s sister, cops told
Age Correspondent
Mumbai, Jan. 29
Relatives of Sandhya Singh, sister of composers Jatin and Lalit and yesteryears actresses Sulakshana and Vijeta Pandit, have told the police that fragments of clothing and a gold ornament found near a human skull and some bones on Sunday lead them to believe the skull may be Sandhya’s.
Sandhya, 50, has been missing since December 13 from her NRI Colony residence in Navi Mumbai. She had left her house with jewellery worth `20 lakh, which she intended to deposit in a bank. Some clothes and a gold ornament were found near the bones. She is the wife of a customs and Central excise commissioner, Jaiprakash Singh. The human remains were found on marshy land next to the mangroves 10 yards from Palm Beach Road, behind Delhi Public School. A geologist and bird-watcher, Michael John Oates (61), spotted the body and told the police.
