12 militant outfits call I-Day boycott
Twelve militant groups of northeast on Thursday called upon the people of the region to boycott the Independence Day celebration in Assam and other northeastern states.
In a joint statement issued to media through email, they have called upon the people to observe a general strike from midnight to 5.30 pm on Monday.
The 12 separatist groups of northeast which has joined the call included — Hynnitrep National Liberation Council, Kamatapur Liberation Organisation, Kanglei Yaol Kanna Lup, Kangleipak Communist Party, National Liberation Front of Tripura, People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak, People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak/Progressive, Revolutionary People’s Front, Tripura People’s Democratic Front, United Liberation Front of Asom, United National Liberation Front and United People’s Party of Kangleipak.
The joint statement said, “Indian government is trying to lure the people and the freedom fighters as well in the name of peace talks. We have experienced futile promises of Indian government in Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura etc.”
