12 people lose eyesight after cataract op
As many as 12 people, including five women, have lost their eyesight following reported botched-up cataract surgeries done in a government health camp at Balod in Chhattisgarh’s Durg district in September, officials said on Thursday.
The patients, all aged between 70-80 years, were admitted in the Ambedkar Medical College and Hospital here on Thursday after they complained of loss of vision in the eyes, which were operated upon to remove cataract in the health camp in September 23-30. Their affected eyes suffered infection immediately after the surgery.
“We have made arrangements to bring all the affected people for admission in the Ambedkar Hospital soon after we received reports about their plight. Five teams of doctors have been constituted to probe the matter. We will strongly deal with the erring doctors,” state health director Kamal Preet Singh told reporters here.
