13 US aircraft, 12 limos land in India
A fleet of 13 US aircraft, more than a dozen limousines, US helicopters and 500 security officials from the United States have already landed in India ahead of US President Barack Obama’s visit to the country. Apart from Mr Obama’s Air Force One, a few private luxury jets carrying top American corporate leaders, who are part of the Obama entourage, are also expected to arrive in India in the next 2-3 days.
A four-layer security ring will be thrown around the US President with the inner layer consisting of US Secret Service officials. It will also consist of officials of the Special Protection Group (SPG), National Security Guards (NSG) while the outer layer of security will be manned by the respective state police forces when Mr Obama is in Mumbai and Delhi, government sources said. The sources said that wife of the President, Michelle Obama will be accorded Z-plus security apart from the US Secret Service officials who will be guarding her. The US security has also brought interception and obstruction device, sniffer dogs and rescue gadgets. Communications set-up, nuclear button and majority of the White House staff will also be in India accompanying the President on this three-day visit. President Obama will be protected by a fleet of 34 warships, including an aircraft carrier, which will patrol the sea lanes off the Mumbai coast during his stay in Mumbai. The move has come in view of the 2008 Mumbai terror attack where terrorists used the sea route to enter Mumbai. Arrangements have been put in place for emergency evacuation, if needed.
