Hyderabad: The state government on Thursday issued orders merging 15 more gram panchayats with Greater Hyderabad, adding strength to the talk that the Centre is considering granting Union Territory status to Greater Hyderabad and making it the joint capital of Telangana and Seemandhra states for 10 years.
The 15 villages that have been merged with the state capital on Thursday are Gandipet, Manchirevula, Kokapet, Jawaharnagar, Shamshabad, Pragathinagar, Bachupally, Kompally, Dulapally, Boduppal, Medipally, Chengicherla, Nagaram, Dammaiguda and Gundla Pochampally.
With this, 36 of the 38 gram panchayats proposed to be merged with the state capital have been amalgamated with the city.
Orders to de-notify panchayats issued
Following orders to merge 15 more gram panchayats with Greater Hyderabad, the Panchayat Raj department issued orders de-notifying them from the list. It may be mentioned that the SEC had issued notification for conducting elections in the 13 of the above 15 panchayats.
These villages were to go to polls on September 21. Elections officials withdrew the poll notification after the state government issued the panchayats’ merger order. They said the state government has powers to merge the villages with Greater Hyderabad.
