17 candidates shown the door by EC
The Election Commission has disqualified 17 candidates from contesting polls for three years for their failure to submit the expenditure of the last elections they had contested.
Disclosing that these candidates will not be able to contest the Assembly elections, the Chief Electoral Officer Assam Hemanta Narzary said more than 4,000 polling centres, out of the total 23,813, have been identified as very sensitive. Over 7,000 booths have been marked as sensitive.
Mr Narzary said that 200 additional companies of para military forces will be deployed during the elections.
He added that at least 163 cases of violation of the Model Code of Conduct have been received so far and almost all of them have been disposed off.

EC appoints new DGP after Opp. complaints

March 19: On the basis of complaints received from opposition parties, the EC has instructed to appoint Bolonath, director of Vigilance and Anti-Corrution as DGP (elections), and to shift other six IPS officers and 4 district collectors in the state, sources in the election department said.
In a letter to the state government, ECI has instructed to shift two city commissioners, one IG, one DIG and two SPs, along with 4 IAS officers. Madurai district witnessed major changes.
