18 ministers get portfolios

Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday allotted the portfolios among his new council of ministers comprising 14 Cabinet and four ministers of state.

Plum portfolios remained with his loyalists like Himanta Biswa Sarma, Rockybul Hussain, Nilmani Sen Deka, Chandan Brahama and Prodyut Bordoloi while others were assigned the job of departments of less relevance.
Meanwhile, the first session of the 13th Assam Legislative Assembly will begin from June 6. Official sources said the session will continue for three days. The newly-elected 126 legislators of the Assam Assembly will take oath on the opening day.
The list of ministers and their portfolios are: Chief minister Tarun Gogoi: Home, political, finance, personnel, GDD, GAD, SAD, election, passport, information technology, science & technology, and any other department which is not allotted; Prithibi Majhi: Revenue and DM, relief and rehabilitation, tea tribes welfare, labour and employment; Tanka Bahadur Rai: Planning and development, judicial, legislative, pension & public grievance; Gautam Roy: Public health, engineering; Ajanta Neog: PWD (roads & buildings, nh), urban development & housing; Dr Ardhendu Dey: Irrigation & soil conservation; Akon Bora: Social welfare & jails; Chandan Brahma: Transport, tourism, WPT & BC (only BTAD areas); Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma: Health & family welfare, education, and implementation of Assam accord; Khor Sing Engti: Animal husbandry & veterinary, mines & minerals, hill areas; Dr Nazrul Islam: Food & civil supplies, welfare of minorities, haj; Nilomoni Sen Deka: Agriculture, horticulture & food processing, parliamentary affairs; Pradyut Bordoloi: Industries & commerce, power, public enterprises. Pranati Phukan: Handloom & textiles, sericulture, cultural affairs; Rockybul Hussain: Panchayat & rural development, environment & forest.
