19-year-old biker shot dead in Delhi
New Delhi: A 19-year-old youngster was shot dead while his friend was injured when they were reportedly performing stunts on bikes near Windsor Place, close to Connaught Place, in New Delhi early on Sunday morning. A Delhi police patrol opened fire to puncture the bike's tyre after they refused to heed warnings to stop their dangerous stunts. Several policemen also got injured.A senior police official said that the incident took place around 2 am at Windsor Place, the round about near Hotel Le Meridien. The deceased was identified as Karan Pandey, while the injured was named as Puneet Sharma, 19, both residents of Khirki Extension in South Delhi.
The police said that a group of bikers got into a confrontation with policemen who tried to stop them from performing dangerous stunts on the roads. A PCR van, which spotted the bikers near Windsor Place, warned them to stop but the group started pelting stones at the police and damaged the van. The police then decided to puncture their bike's tyre.
“We opened fire in the air to scare the bikers, but they were not deterred and went on a rampage. We then aimed at the tyre of one of the bikes. A bullet hit Karan Pandey who was riding pillion. He and the rider, Puneet, fell on the road. Both of them were rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where Karan was declared dead by doctors,“ a cop said.
The official said Puneet's medical test showed he was driving in an inebriated condition. Alcohol traces were found in his blood. The police said he was undergoing treatmen at the hospital.
The police has filed an FIR and seized Puneet's t bike. A magistrate record ed statements by both the police and Puneet
