1984 riots: Court files murder case against Sajjan
A Delhi court on Wednesday framed murder charges against senior Congress leader Sajjan Kumar and four others for allegedly killing one person in Sultanpuri area during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, paving the way for the leader to face trial.
After hearing the prosecution and defence arguments, additional sessions judge Sunita Gupta framed the charges against the leader under various sections of the IPC, including 302 (murder) and 107 (abetment of murder).
Mr Kumar is already facing trial for criminal conspiracy, murder and other offences under the IPC in a case relating to the killing of five persons at Delhi Cantonment during the anti-Sikh riots.
Besides Mr Kumar, the four other accused are Brahmanand Gupta, Ved Prakash, Khushal and Peeria. They were charged by the court with the murder of Surjit Singh on November 1, 1984.
The police said that during rioting that day over 100 houses were allegedly torched and a gurdwara was attacked in Sultanpuri area.
The CBI had filed a chargesheet against Mr Kumar and the others in two cases for allegedly instigating mobs during the anti-Sikh riots.
