Feb. 14: There are only 83 cops for every one lakh persons in Uttar Pradesh which probably explains the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. Parliamentary affairs minister Lalji Varma said the number will rise to 223 cops per one lakh people after the state recruits new cops for various posts. Replying to a question in the state Assembly on Monday, the minister said that after recruitment of cops, the person-police ratio in the state would be adequate.
