2 anti-talk Ulfa leaders to join peace process
Two top leaders of anti-talks factions of the Ulfa, led by Paresh Baruah, may soon join the peace-process initiated by the pro-talks group led by its chairman Arbinda Rajkhowa in Assam.
Disclosing this on Tuesday, security sources told this newspaper that the home ministry was firm on its policy of starting talks with the insurgent groups only after the surrender of arms and restricting cadres in designated camps.
Claiming that pro-talks faction of the Ulfa has agreed to surrender arms and confining their cadres within designated camps, the security sources said that there have been some differences over the modalities, which is expected to be sorted out soon.
Referring that leaders of the outfit has informed the home ministry that two more Ulfa leaders of the Paresh Baruah faction are willing to join the peace-process, security sources however refused to reveal their names but hinted that two Ulfa leaders are in Bangladesh and the process to deport them back to Assam will start soon.
About difference over the modalities, security sources said that home ministry has proposed three designated camps for about 250-300 Ulfa cadres, but they want nine camps. About surrender of arms, the Ulfa leadership was insisting on keeping the arms under joint custody, security sources said.
