2 arrested, case against 100 over land dispute

Two persons were arrested while a case has been registered against 100 others in connection with a clash over a land dispute between two groups at Kairutu village in the district, the police said on Monday.

A case was registered against 100 people under Section 147 (Punishment for rioting), 148 (Rioting, armed with a deadly weapon), 188 and 307 (Attempt to murder) of Indian Penal Code here on Sunday, they said.

The trouble began when the two groups confronted each another and exchanged fire, the police said, adding, security has been beefed up in and around the area after the incident.
