`20K cr projects for Maharashtra
Maharashtra is in the process of signing memorandums of understanding for 40 mega-projects, each worth more than `500 crores. Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan on Tuesday said that this was proof enough that Maharashtra, and not Narendra Modi’s Gujarat, is the state attracting maximum industries.
“Recently, there has been a malafide campaign going on that Maharashtra has lost its number one rank in the country and the spot has been filled by Gujarat. But it is not true. Maharashtra has always been the attracting maximum number of industries in the country and continues to do so,” Mr Chavan said.
Speaking further about the 40 mega-projects slated to come up in the state, Mr Chavan said, “We have already signed eight MoUs and the rest will be signed shortly. Each of these projects is slated to bring a minimum investment of `500 crores.”
The Maharashtra CM further said that the state attracts most investors because it has the highest urbanisation, boasts of a trained labour force required for industries and provides the best infrastructure.
“Maharashtra generates the highest revenue in the country,” he said.
“We cannot expect every industry and investor to come to us. There will be a few industries that will go to other states depending on their convenience. But Maharashtra is still the most preferred destination for industrialists and the government is trying its best to keep it that way,” Mr Chavan added.
