21 killed, 12 injured in road mishap
Twenty-one passengers, including five minors, were killed and 12 others were injured in a ghastly head-on collision between a truck and a rashly driven light commercial vehicle loaded beyond capacity near the Sendhwa barrier in Badwani district of Madhya Pradesh on Thursday.
The victims were pilgrims returning in a Mahindra Max light commercial vehicle from the Bijasan Devi Temple on the Maharashtra border. The Badwani district superintendent of police R.S. Meena told this newspaper that the rashly driven vehicle had a head-on collision with a truck coming from the opposite direction. Of the 12 injured, five passengers who were critical were rushed to Indore.

Boy refuses to beg, is beaten up

Oct. 14: A first year nursing student of a local degree college was badly thrashed by his senior when he refused to go outside the school campus and beg for money by touching the feet of passers-by.
The boy, Mayank Kumar, has been admitted to the hospital with multiple injuries where his condition is said to be stable.
According to police reports, four senior students of the G.S.R.M. Memorial Degree College assaulted the first year student on Wednesday when he refused to comply with their orders.
In his complaint field on Thursday, Mayank Kumar has said that Gyan Prakash, Rahul Pandey, Deepak and Amresh forced him to step outside the campus and collect money from the passersby by touching their feet. They beat him up when he refused to do so and then left him on the road.

Three Hizb militants killed in J&K
Srinagar, Oct. 14: Three Hizbul Mujahideen militants were on Thursday killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district.
“Three militants have been killed and searches are going on at the scene of the gunbattle,” superintendent of police Shopian Shahid Mehraj said.
Acting on credible inputs about presence of militants, a joint team of Army’s 53 Rashtriya Rifles, 44 Rashtriya Rifles and Special Operations Group (SOG) of local police launched a cordon-and-search operation at Chewan in Keller area of Shopian district, 70 kms from here, officials said. They said the militants were asked to surrender but they opened indiscriminate firing at the security forces.
