23 foreigners killed in Leh identified, lot more missing
Three French tourists, an Italian and a Spaniard were among the 170 people killed in last week’s flash floods and mudslides triggered by a cloudburst in Leh and its neighbourhood. Also, 16 Nepalese labourers and two Tibetans are reported to have perished in the catastrophe which flattened dozens of homes, government buildings, tourist cottages and hotels.
The officials identified the French nationals as Augareils Hendri, Hellot Jacques and Daniel Haury, besides Spaniard Marro Mas Maria Lourdes and Italian Ricardo Pitton. The two Tibetan victims were identified as Pasang Tsering and Tsering Yangkyid.
There are dozens of other foreign nationals still missing or stuck in remote areas of Ladakh. Eighty-one foreigners were earlier rescued by the IAF from the Zanskar Valley, while the Army said it assisted 151 foreigners at Lama Yuru.
