2G case: Raja aide Basha quizzed
The CBI on Friday questioned Sadiq Basha, a close aide of former telecom minister A. Raja, in connection with its probe into the 2G Spectrum scam.
Mr Basha, who runs Green House Promoters from his house in Teynampet, Chennai, was called for the questioning at the agency headquarters here.
The agency officials had earlier carried out searches on the premises and business establishments of Mr Raja’s brother, close relatives and business associates, including Mr Basha, in Tiruchy, Perambalur and Ariyalur on December 15, last year. The CBI officials had already quizzed Jamal and Jaffar Ali, brothers of Mr Basha in Perambalur.
According to sources Mr Basha was questioned about his relations with former telecom minister. He was also asked questions about his bank transaction details and queries related to certain incriminating documents recovered during the recent raids from his official and residential premises in Perambalur.
The CBI had earlier registered a case against unknown officials of DoT and unknown private persons, companies and others under different sections of Prevention of Corruption Act. Meanwhile, the CBI which questioned corporate lobbyist Nira Radia on Tuesday and Thursday, is believed to have recorded her statement. Sources said if required she may be called for questioning again. Ms Radia role first emerged when the income-tax department recorded her conversations allegedly with Raja, corporate biggies and some scribeswhen the process of 2G allotment was going on. It is believed that Ms Radia played an influential behind-the-scene role in allegedly liasioning for the companies with the former telecom minister.
