2G scam: No bail for Raja, order on May 15
A special CBI court on Friday rejected Former Telecom Minister and a key accused in the 2G telecom scam, A Raja’s first ever bail plea, reserving its order till May 15.
Raja had on Wednesday filed a bail application in the court, hours after it granted bail to former telecom secretary Siddharth Behura.
On Friday, the CBI opposed Raja's bail plea in court. Raja has moved a bail application for the first time since his arrest in February 2011.
Special CBI Judge O.P. Saini had directed the CBI to file its response, if any, on Raja's bail plea on 11th May.
Raja, in his plea, had contended that he is 'innocent' and the case against him is 'false and fabricated'.
The DMK MP had filed the bail plea on the ground of parity with other 13 accused who all have been granted the relief by the Supreme Court, the Delhi High Court and the special court trying the case.
Besides Raja, DMK MP Kanimozhi, Behura, Raja's former private secretary R.K. Chandolia , Swan Telecom promoters Shahid Usman Balwa and Vinod Goenka, Unitech Limited MD Sanjay Chandra and Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani group executives Gautam Doshi, Surendra Pipara and Hari Nair are facing trial in the case.
Nineteen individuals were accused in the multi- crore scam of which, 14 were arrested. Notably, all except Raja are out on bail.
