2nd phase polling amid heavy security today

Adilabad/Warangal/Karimnagar: Heavy security is being arranged for the second phase of panchayat polls in north Telangana districts.
 
The urban and rural Warangal police are putting up a strong bandobust for Saturday’s second phase polls scheduled in 287 panchayats in 16 mandals with a plan to deploy three ASPs, 10 DSPs, 21 CIs, 70 SIs, 283 head constables, 710 constables, 52 women police constables and 329 home guards. 
 
Of the 287 panchayats going to the second phase polls in Warangal, 174 fall under nine mandals of Mahbubabad revenue division while the remaining 113 panchayats come under seven mandals of Narsampet revenue division.       
 
With a total number of 3,067 polling stations to be manned by 8,415 poll officials, the second phase panchayat polls would decide the fate of 933 sarpanch candidates and 7,778 ward members in the fray.  
 
In the run up to the second phase polls, the Warangal police made record seizure of Rs 65,53,650  in cash, 6,756 litres of liquor, 9,568 kgs of black jaggery besides taking 13,115 people in custody. 
 
In Adilabad, collector Ahemd Babu on Friday inspected the election material supplying centres set up at Neredigonda, Ichoda, Boath, Gudihathnoor and Jannaram mandal headquarters in the view of the elections for 272 panchayas under Adilabad and Mancherial divisions.
 
He warned of sending a report to the State Election Commission seeking action against the staff who refuse to attend election duties. According to district panchayat officer K. Pochaiah, 130 panchayats and 1,284 wards in Adilabad division and 142 panchayats  and 1,496 wards in Mancherial division are going for polls. 
 
In Karimnagar district, a total of 8,25,476 voters in Jagtial and Sircilla divisions are to take part in the phase-2 panchayat polling to elect 484 sarpanches and 3,730 ward members.
 
A total of 11,059 election personnel will be deployed in 4,211 polling booths in the two divisions. Web casting arrangements were made in 75 booths in Jagtial and 26 in Sircilla besides videographing in 110 villages.
