3 die in Maha after being hit by trains
Three persons were killed and another seriously injured after being hit by speeding suburban trains in separate incidents near Vikhroli station on Sunday, sparking protest by locals that led to disruption of services on the Central railway for nearly two hours.
One person each was fatally hit by trains in three incidents while crossing the railway tracks at suburban Vikhroli since Sunday morning, Government Railway Police (GRP) commissioner Tukaram Chavan said.
Another person was seriously injured in the fourth such mishap of the day and admitted to Rajawadi Hospital, he said.
Only one of the deceased, Zeebodh Gupta (18), has been identified, the police said.
Following the mishaps, a huge crowd led by local MNS legislator Ram Kadam blocked railway tracks at Vikhroli at around 1.30 pm, bringing train services to a halt.
The crowd blamed the incidents on lack of foot over bridge (FOB) near the station and demanded prompt action by the railways on their long-pending demand for an overbridge.

Leopard killed for black magic

Nov. 21: A leopard was on Sunday allegedly killed for black magic in a forest in Chhattisgarh, the police said.
The two-year-old big cat was found dead with its two front legs chopped off in Kasekera jungle under Bagbahara block in Mahasamund district.
Local villagers spotted the body in the morning and informed the concerned forest officer, the police said, adding that post-mortem report disclosed that the leopard succumbed to bleeding after its two legs were cut off.
The police suspects that the wild animal may have been killed for black magic practice by some local tribals.
Preliminary investigation by the police ruled out hand of poachers in the killing. Police sources said the miscreants appeared to have murdered the leopard for its nails in two front paws, used for practice of sorcery by local tribals.
Kasekera forest houses a good number of leopards. However, the leopard population has declined substantially over the last two decades due to rampant poaching of the animal and black magic practiced by some local tribes.
