3 grenade attacks in Assam, no damage
In what was feared by security agencies, the anti-talks faction of outlawed National Democratic Front of Bodoland on Thursday launched a series of grenade attacks at various places to enforce the boycott of Independence Day in Assam.
Inspector general of police, in-charge of Bodoland Territorial Council, Mr G.P. Singh on Thursday said that there were three grenade attacks by suspected NDFB rebels but one of them failed to explode in Kokrajhar.
Admitting that militants failed to cause any major damage due to strict surveillance of security forces, Mr Singh said that rebels of NDFB led by I.K. Songbijit were involved in all the incidents.
In what was also indicator of some design of ultras, security sources said that NDFB rebels hurled a grenade at the All Minority Students Union office at Bagorgaon village under Bijni police station on Thursday. The angry residents of the area chased the militants and caught one of the linkmen of NDFB after the blast.
Sources said that NDFB had planned more attacks in minority areas with obvious aim to create communal tension.
