3 held for beating student to death

The MIDC police on Wednesday arrested three young men, two of them minors, for allegedly beating a 17-year-old college student to death over an old argument on Tuesday night.
According to the MIDC police, the incident occurred near the Kohinoor Hotel on the Andheri-Kurla Road at around 11 pm on Tuesday. The deceased, Ansh Agrawal, had got into an argument with his 17-year old neighbour a month ago. In the heat of the argument, he used abusive words against the teen’s mother as well as his female friend, the police said.
“The teen was angry about his mother and friend being abused and on Tuesday night, he, along with a group of ten to 12 friends, intercepted Agarwal as he was on his way home after visiting a friend.
The group proceeded to beat Agarwal up with bamboo sticks and iron rods, and three of them bashed his head in with a cement paver block. The group then left Agarwal lying unconscious on the road and fled the scene,” said an officer with the MIDC police.
Eye-witnesses rushed Agarwal to the Kiran Hospital in Andheri, where he was declared dead before admission due to massive head injuries and damage to vital organs.

Model admits marriage to murder accused
DIPPY VANKANI
MUMBAI, APRIL 18

After dilly-dallying for a while, model Simran Sood on Wednesday confessed to being married to murder accused Vijay Palande.
The duo had posed as brother and sister for entering into lease agreements. Sood was also rumoured to be Palande’s neice; however, on Wednesday she told her interrogators that they had been married for 12 years.
“Palande worked as a delivery boy for Copper Chimney Restaurant in Juhu in 1998 and would often visit a gymnasium in the area, where Sood used to work. The two fell in love and later got married,” said a senior crime branch officer.
Interestingly, Palande also married a German national Levis Braganza later. “Braganza had gotten in touch with Palande through a common acquaintance. She had plans to start a business in Germany. When Palande learnt of Braganza’s business plans, he started wooing her and ultimately convinced her to marry him. He and Sood could have planned to dupe Braganza, by posing as people interested in helping her start her business,” he said.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
