‘`30,000cr swindled by Group C annually’
Claiming that Group C employees swindle `30,000 crores worth of money meant for poor each year, Team Anna on Monday strongly demanded inclusion of the lower bureaucracy in the ambit of the proposed Lokpal.
Team Anna in a statement on Monday rejected the government and Aruna Roy-led NCPRI versions of the draft Lokpal Bill and demanded that there should be one agency to cover the whole bureaucracy for graft cases. Team Anna claimed that all sections of employees and politicians collude with each other to swindle public money.
In a statement, India Against Corruption (IAC) asserted that the politicians and bureaucrats don’t indulge in corruption separately. Team Anna rejected government’s proposal of covering lower bureaucracy under Central Vigilance Commission and NCPRI model of police first investigating the graft cases. Team Anna maintained that the people suffer the most from corruption of lower bureaucracy, while inspectors, who are mostly accused of corruption, are Group C employees. Team Anna is of the view that maximum corruption takes place at the level of Group C employees.
Team Anna maintained in the statement that thousands of crores of rupees leakages takes place in the implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarnatee Act (NREGA) with the collusion of Group C employees, panchayat officials.
Countering the assertions of the government that bringing entire bureaucracy under Lokpal would make it unwieldy, Team Anna said if one goes by international standards, India needs 28,500 anti-corruption staff in CVC.
