36 C’garh Opp. MLAs suspended
Thirty-six Opposition MLAs — 34 Congress legislators and two Bahujan Samaj Party( BSP) legislators — were on Tuesday suspended from Chhattisgarh Assembly for disrupting the House demanding resignation of chief minister Raman Singh over deteriorating law and order in the state. As soon as the House assembled in the
morning, all these MLAs trooped to the well raising slogans against the chief minister, Mr Raman Singh, for his alleged failure to curb growing incidents of abduction and killing of children in the state. They also displayed photograph of a school student, who was kidnapped and murdered recently.
All theses 36 MLAs were suspended for the day as per the rule of the House. The codes of conduct laid by C’garh Assembly for its members say legislators stepping into the well are liable to be suspended. No other Legislative Assembly in the country has such a stringent provision. The suspended MLAs included Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader Ravindra Choubey. The speaker Dharamlal Kaushik had to adjourn the House twice to restore order. He finally put off business of the Assembly for the day following the dins.
Later, the CLP leader announced that his party would not allow functioning of the House till the chief minister tendered his resignation owning moral responsibility for the recent abduction and killings of children in the state.
Earlier, Congress legislator T.S. Singhdeo sparked a furore in the rank and file of the ruling BJP, when he alleged involvement of a BJP leader in the kidnapping and killing of 10-year-old Ritik Tikas recently at Ambikapur in Sarguja district. The BJP men brought out a rally at Ambikapur condemning the Congress leader for making “wild and baseless allegations” against the party leader.
