3rd Trinamul MP adds to Mamata woes

After the Saradha chit fund scam, the Trinamul Congress is apparently under a cloud over another party Rajya Sabha member, Mr K.D. Singh. On September 6, 2011, the CPI MP D. Raja had forwarded a complaint against Mr Singh to the Reserve Bank of India and Sebi alleging that his company was raising money from the public by “improper means”. The RBI had forwarded the complaint to the Registrar of Companies.

Sources disclosed that Mr Singh, a Chandigarh-based industrialist and founder of the `10,000-crore Alchemist group, was nominated to the Rajya Sabha by the Trinamul Congress. The Alchemist group had denied the charges and sought a stay from the Delhi high court against inquiries. Mr Singh had claimed that he has “resigned from all positions” in his companies.
Repeated attempts to contact Mr Singh failed as he was “not available” to respond to the
charges levelled by the CPI. An email was also sent by this newspaper to the media in-charge of Mr Singh seeking an official reaction. Sources said it was party MP Kunal Ghosh who was the initial link between Mr Singh and the Trinamul.
The crisis for Ms Mamata Banerjee deepened further with employees of the Saradha Group lodging an FIR against Mr Kunal Ghosh on Friday. He is the first Trinamul MP against whom an FIR has been lodged. The employees demanded his immediate arrest.
