4 hurt as chavittunatakam stage at festival collapses
Kochi: Four students suffered minor injuries when a wooden piece of the stage on which they were performing chavittunatakam broke.
The incident took place on Saturday at St Paul’s LP School, Kolencherry, when higher secondary students were on stage at the Ernakulam revenue district school youth festival.
The students, identified as P.J.Lijo, Rojin Joy, Abi Raj and Vipin Manuel are all plus-one students of St Sebastian’s School in Gothuruth. They were taken to Kolenchery Medical Mission Hospital.
High school students had performed chavittunatakam on the same stage earlier in the day. The event was shifted to the main venue after the incident. “The stage was shaky even when the high school students were performing. A student also stepped on a nail. Later, the authorities hammered in a few more nails and we thought the issue was fixed. But the stage was still weak and collapsed when higher secondary students performed”, said a teacher of the Gothuruth school.
