4 of Raja family on firm’s board
It seemed to have been a case of all in the family for former telecom minister and the prime accused in the 2G spectrum scam, A. Raja, as it has come to light that four members of his family were on the board of directors of Chennai-based Green House Promoters, a company owned by Sadiq Batcha, alleged business associate of Mr Raja.
While the CBI has mentioned this fact in the supplementary chargesheet filed on April 25, sources said that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also decided to evaluate all the properties owned by all the 2G accused chargesheeted by the CBI. Apart from Mr Raja, DMK supremo Karunanidhi’s daughter, Kanimozhi, is also an accused in the case. Sources in the ED, which is also probing 2G Spectrum scam, said, “After completing the process of evaluation of properties, the agency will begin the process of attachment”. The CBI in its chargesheet filed before a local court on Monday said, “Green House Promoters was registered with Registrar of Companies, Chennai in 2004 and initial directors of the company were Sadiq Batcha and his wife S. Reha Banu. Later, other people (family members of Mr Raja) also joined as directors. M.A. Parmeshwari, wife of Mr Raja, worked as director (legal) in the company”.
Besides, Mr Raja’s brother Kaliya Perumal and his nephews — Ramchandran Ramganesh and R.P. Parmesh Kumar — also joined the company as directors, said the chargesheet. The ED has also started the process of evaluation of properties owned by Green Houses promoters, sources in the ED said.
“The ED has also decided to start the process of evaluation of properties owned by all 2G accused, including Mr Raja and Ms Kanimozhi. The CBI chargesheet has so far named 14 accused, including Mr Raja and Ms Kanimozhi. Besides, three telecom companies were also named in the chargesheet including — Unitech and Swan Telecom,” sources said. The ED will first begin the process of attachment of properties allegedly acquired by two private telecom companies.
