In 4 states, kids ill after midday meals
Barely four days after the tragic death of 23 children in a Bihar school, 35 students of a primary school in a Chhattisgarh village were on Saturday taken ill after consuming mid-day meal, suspected to be poisoned by a dead lizard.
Official reports reaching here said 145 students of the government-run primary school in the village of Mou in Bemetara district were rushed to the local district headquarters hospital when they complained of uneasiness and nausea following consumption of mid-day meal in the afternoon.
Thirty-nine students fell ill after the reportedly consumed food, contaminated by a dead scorpion, served under the Mid-Day Meal (MDM) scheme at Upper Primary School at Siaria Tailasahi in Orissa’s Dhenkanal district, nearly 100 km from here, a government official said on Sunday.
Dead insects were found in the mid-day meal of the children on Saturday in Punjab when some teachers of a school in Ferozepur district noticed dead insects in the vegetables on the mid-day meal menu for the day.
The incident took place at Municipal Council Primary School for Girls at Ferozshah near Talwandi Bhai in Ferozepur District.
Eleven students fell ill after consuming mid-day meal served to them at a government primary school at Lusana village in Muzaffarnagar in UP on Saturday.
