40 protesting farmers injured in lathicharge
Around 40 protesting farmers were injured on Tuesday after the police allegedly cane charged them while they were asleep in a garden near Polytechnic College Chowk here.
The agitating farmers have since on Monday , blocked the roads leading to Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's residence at Shyamla Hills.
"Around 40 farmers were injured and one of them got stitches on his head following injuries," Madhya Pradesh Bhartiya Kisan Sangh President Shiv Kumar Sharma alleged.
Describing the police action as "barbaric and cowardly", Sharma said such tactics can't deter the farmers from protesting.
However, the police denied the charge that they canecharged farmers. "There was no lathi charge on farmers," superintendent of police (South Bhopal) Yogesh Choudhary said.
Sharma said they were holding talks with government officials about their demands.
Meanwhile, vehicular traffic on the city roads eased today when protesting farmers confined their agitation to only one place — Polytechnic College.
Traffic was crippled yesterday following road blockades in many parts of the city.
