5 arrested for ‘vengeful’ molestation
Five youth, including two engineering students, were arrested by the Regent Park police on Wednesday for allegedly molesting a woman after storming her residence.
The accused are Chirantan Das, Pinkai Chowdhury, Sayandeep Sen, Arghya Dutta and Arghyajit Maity, all in their mid-twenties.
Sayandeep and Arghya are engineering students. Recently, they were sacked from their jobs in the online business run by Debabrata Pal, the husband of the victim.
The attack took place at Kudghat in Bansdroni. The youth wanted to take revenge for loss of job, the victim claimed.
The accused with two others stormed her residence at around 10.30 pm on Monday, said deputy commissioner of police (south suburban) Sujoy Kumar Chanda.
They hurled abuses at her. Mr Chanda added, “During the altercation, she was molested by the youth. Her husband was not at home.
The accused also damaged Mr Pal’s two-wheeler. Since she was alone she could not lodge a complaint, perhaps out of fear.
On Tuesday night, she lodged a complaint.” The four were arrested under Sections 354 for molestation, 427 for damage and 509 for insult of a woman, of the Indian Penal Code.
