5 die in wall collapse in Bengaluru
Five construction labourers died and several others sustained injuries in a wall collapse at an under-construction building in C.K. Palya on Bannerghatta road. The incident took place on Wednesday morning when the labourers were at work.
Most of the deceased and injured are labourers from Bihar who came through a contractor and were engaged in the construction of a warehouse in C.K. Palya, Anekal, on Bannerghatta Road.
The owner of the building, Shrinivasa Reddy, is absconding since the accident took place. The police have begun investigations into the case.
“This is a case of complete negligence and we are booking criminal cases against the owner of the warehouse company. As per our report, he did not have permission to carry out construction. The 30-foot wall that collapsed around 11.45 am on Wednesday was due to the use of filter sand that was mixed with cement for construction,” said a police official.
Ambulances from the nearby Suhas Hospital in Anekal district were rushed to the spot and around 20 personnel from the fire and emergency department carried out rescue operations.
