5 more die in Assam flareup
The situation in the Bodo-land Territorial Council area, fast returning to normal, deteriorated further Sunday with sporadic incidents of violence leading to five more deaths, forcing the administration to clamp indefinite curfew in Assam’s trouble-torn Chirang district.
Security sources said the problem started soon after two bodies were recovered from Kokrajhar district’s Kajal Gaon area on Sunday morning. Two youths — Mohidul Islam Mondal and Amir Ali — who had gone to Kajal Gaon for some work were reported missing since Saturday. Earlier Satu-rday, the police had recovered a mutilated body fro-m a well in the same area.
The police, recovering the bodies, said some miscreants had abducted the youths and abandoned their Mahindra Geo vehicles on the roadside.
As news spread, a mob of nearly 200 people blocked the highways and attac-ked a passenger bus in Ch-irang district. It also assaulted the driver and passengers of a particular community.
