5 phases over, scene shifts to western UP
With five phases of elections over in Uttar Pradesh, the scenario has now shifted to western UP and all poll-related activity and management will now be conducted from Delhi, instead of Lucknow, which had been the hub of activity till now. Polling for the sixth and seventh phases of elections is scheduled to take place on February 28 and March 3 in western UP and parts of Terai region.
Considering the physical proximity of these regions to Delhi, all campaigns will now be run from Delhi.
“It will be easier for our star campaigners to fly to constituencies in the sixth and seventh phases from Delhi and we are therefore now shifting base to Delhi. The logistics will continue to be managed from Lucknow and the activity will now shift to Delhi,” said a BJP spokesman.
Congress spokesman Dujendra Tripathi say that while the call centre will remain in Lucknow till the end of elections but almost all leaders will now base in Delhi for the next two phases. “Even places like Shahjahanpur and Pilibhit are closer to Delhi than Lucknow and, therefore, campaigning will be easier if one is based in Delhi,” said UPCC spokesman Dujendra Tripathi.
According to sources, UP chief minister Mayawati, who is the sole star campaigner of the BSP, will also stay in Delhi unless she has some important work to attend to in Lucknow during the coming days.
