A section of Wipro employees at the company's Greater Noida unit on Friday briefly stalled work after five employees were injured in a scuffle with company-hired taxi drivers.

About 300 Wipro employees, who were protesting against the alleged beating up of their five colleagues, however, returned to work after police registered a case against the drivers.

"Five staff members were beaten outside the campus by some 20 cab drivers after an argument. They have been admitted to a hospital in Noida. 300 employees are protesting the act and we will not resume work till an FIR in lodged," a Wipro employee, who was part of the protest, said.

Wipro, in an emailed statement, said, "There was a minor disturbance involving a few Wipro employees of our Noida facility and staff of our transport vendor, outside the campus."

The company will cooperate with local authorities in the investigation and operations remain normal at the facility, it added. The incident comes to light two days after Maruti Suzuki's General Manager (Human Resources) was charred to death and about 100 others were injured in a clash between workers and the managerial staff at the company's Manesar plant here, forcing stoppage of work.

The reason for the argument, leading to the brawl, is not yet known. The incident occurred at 8 in the morning just outside the Wipro campus in Greater Noida.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.
