50% of AICC will be women in 2-3 yrs: Rahul
During Saturday’s meetings with his new AICC team, Mr Rahul Gandhi told party officials in no uncertain terms that accountability would follow responsibility.
Sources said Mr Gandhi chose the occasion to flag the issue of inadequate representation of women in the AICC and other party wings. The trigger was a remark by AICC general secretary Luizinho Falerio, who is in charge of party affairs in the north-eastern states, that he was looking after the “seven sisters”. “But we have only six sisters here,” Mr Gandhi said, referring to the presence of party general secretary Ambika Soni and five secretaries, adding that in two to three years, 50 per cent of the office-bearers would be women. He also felt there was something amiss in the functioning of the outgoing party set-up, sources said, adding that Mr Gandhi said the AICC set-up should project a picture of a united family.
