5th surgery on sikar gangrape victim fails
A surgery performed on 11-year-old Sikar gangrape victim failed due to infection and the doctors said one more operation will be needed after a week. It was the fifth surgery on the victim who had been operated upon on Saturday at J.K. Lone Hospital in Jaipur.
The victim, from Bihar’s Darbhanga, was shifted four months back to the hospital from Sikar after she was gangraped brutally resulting serious injuries. “A team of expert doctors noticed an infection after examining her and decided to open the stitches,” said Dr L.D. Agarwal. The doctors said she is out of danger.
The fifth surgery was done under the observation and monitoring of a team of doctors. “We will investigate what went wrong in operation and why the infection developed,” said Dr Agarwal.
The doctors had termed the fifth operation as successful and assured the victim will be discharged after some days but it proved futile.
The Bihar government is also keeping close a vigil on the victim and is in touch with the family. The Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar also spoke to his counterpart Ashok Gehlot in Rajasthan and inquired about the victim. The administration had deployed security guards at the hospital for the security of the victim. The police has already arrested six accused in the case.
The state government has announced `5 lakh for the victim and has assured the case will be tried by fast track court.

‘Border tension will not affect sarabjit release’
Age correspondent
Kolkata, jan. 15
The Pakistani lawyer of Sarabjit Singh, Awais Sheikh on Tuesday released his book titled Sarabjit Singh: A case of mistaken identity in Kolkata which is likely to reveal the truth about the imprisoned Indian citizen facing death sentence in Pakistan. Published by Rajkamal Prakashan, the Hindi version of the book titled Sarabjit Ki Ajeeb Dastan was simultaneously released.
Accompanied by Sarabjit’s sister Dalbir Kaur and daughter Poonam, Mr Sheikh informed that the heightening of tension between the two countries due to the killings of two Indian soldiers by Pakistani counterpart would not stop him from being released. “Sarabjit’s incident is subjected to a case of mistaken identity. After a long battle of 22 years and five months, I am hopeful that I will be able to bring Sarabjit through Wagah border. I don’t think the present escalating tensions will prevent him from coming back to his own country,” said Mr Sheikh, adding that President Asif Zardari may sign the mercy petition.
Sarabjit’s daughter Poonam said, “The peace process between India and Pakistan should not stop at any cost.”
