6 are still unauthorised occupants of bungalows
At least six senior politicians and former Union ministers continue to unauthorisedly occupy the official bungalows allotted to them even one year after their allotment was cancelled when the new government took over last year. The information has been revealed in reply to an RTI query.
As per reply furnished by the directorate of estates under the union urban development ministry, the latest list of unauthorised occupants, compiled on May 18, had the names of former Union ministers Ram Vilas Paswan, Renuka Chowdhary, Ram Jethmalani and Ashwini Kumar. The list also had the names of Saleem Sherwani and Jagdish Tytler.
Apart from seeking information on unauthorised occupants, petitioner S.C. Agarwal had also sought to know whether 6 Krishna Menon Marg, which was vacated by Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, who moved into the Speaker’s house, has been allotted to anybody else. The directorate replied in the negative.
After the new government was formed in May last year, all the allotments made in the Lutyens Bungalow Zone were cancelled as per norm. However, there were at least 36 unauthorised occupants in July 2009. The number came down to 22 in February this year and now the number of unauthorised occupants is six.
