6 militants slain in J&K encounters
Army in a fierce gunfight killed four separatist militants in a forest area of Jammu and Kashmir’s north-western Baramulla district on Monday, officials here said. One soldier was injured in the clash.
Two Jaish-e-Mohammed militants were slain in a similar clash at Lalad in Sopore town, 48-km northwest of here on Monday. Defence spokesperson Lt. Col. J.S. Brar said soldiers of Army’s One Para, 32 and 40 Rashtriya Rifles Rifles mounted an operation in the dense Hamam forest.

90 shifted in J&K police

In a major reshuffle in Jammu and Kashmir administration and police department, as many as 90 officers have been shifted from their presenting postings.
Also, nine IPS officers have been promoted and placed in Super Time Scale (IPG) for their good performance in maintaining law and order and combating militancy.

Gohil: Dalits being targeted

Gujarat Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil here on Monday charged chief minister Narendra Modi of victimising dalits who oppose his policies which they find against the interest of the socially marginalised people. “Cases are being filed against Gujarat dalit leaders at the instance of the chief minister,” said Gohil, who is also the leader of opposition in the state assembly.

12 AIDS cases in 9 months

Pratapgarh, located about 170 kms from Lucknow, has witnessed a sudden spurt in AIDS patients, setting alarm bells ringing in the district. In the past nine months, 121 persons have tested HIV positive in the district and nearly 80 per cent of the patients are men and women while the remaining 20 per cent are children.
