60 arrested after crowd forcibly occupies toll plaza
Around 60 people were arrested on Sunday after they forcibly occupied a toll plaza, located on Delhi-Gurgaon border, for 45 minutes to demand the expressway be made toll-free, a senior police official said.
"Around 400 strong crowd with those from RWAs, villagers and others forcibly made all the lanes free. They were demanding removal of toll tax," DCP (East) Maheshwar Dayal said.
A little-known outfit 'Toll Hatao Sangarsh Samiti' had organised the protest, which resulted in vehicles having a free run during the period.
Dayal along with a huge police team reached the spot and tried to initially placate the crowd. Later, 60 people were formally arrested, he said, adding that the situation is now under control.
