In a case of suspected rash and drunken driving, an elderly man reportedly mowed down seven sleeping pedestrians — critically injuring two — in his Range Rover in Electronic City traffic police limits on Monday night. The incident happened between 10:45-11:45 pm in front of Channa Keshava School at Naganathapura junction.
The accused is Krishnappa alias ‘Bar’ Krishnappa, thought to be in his late 40s or early 50s, and a local of Electronic City. Krishnappa is also reportedly a former member of the City Municipal Council (CMC).
Police suspect that Krishnappa was drunk when he got behind the wheel to head home on Monday night. As he was driving past Naganathapura junction, he reportedly swerved too much to the left and ran over the seven sleeping pedestrians.
Two of them are said to be critically injured, while the other five escaped with minor injuries. After admitting all the victims to a nearby hospital, Krishnappa allegedly tried to escape in a blue Maruti car.
Seeing this, Electronic City traffic police gave chase but were unable to catch him. As of 12:45 am on Monday night, Krishnappa is still absconding. The Electronic City traffic police have wired a message to all other police stations to keep a lookout for the car.
