70 per cent Tihar inmates are undertrials
A total of 73.5 per cent inmates of Tihar Jail are undergoing trial, which is much above the national average of 66.4 percent undertrials in Indian jails, an official said on Tuesday.
Out of the 11,598 prisoners lodged in Tihar Jail, 8,911 inmates are undertrials, including 410 women, Director General (Prisons) Neeraj Kumar said at the jail's annual press conference.
