8 AK-47 rifles recovered from BTC area
In a major breakthrough in the ongoing Army operations to flush out illegal weapons in trouble-torn Bodoland Territorial Council, security forces on Thursday succeeded in recovering at least eight AK-47 rifles from ex-BLT cadres in three separate operations in Assam.
Disclosing that four AK-47 rifles were recovered from ex-BLT cadres in Updalguri area by the Army, security sources said that acting on specific tip off, the Army recovered two AK-47 rifles from ex-BLT cadres in Bongaigaon area in last 24 hours.
Informing that there are at least 75 AK series rifles in possession of ex-Bodo Liberation Tigers, which was disbanded after signing of the Bodo Accord on February 10, 2003, security sources said that ex-BLT cadres were acting as private militia of ex-BLT leaders, now ruling the BTC.
Security sources said that two AK-47 rifles were recovered from a car in Chirang when some couriers were trying to smuggle it out of BTC. Security sources said that the CBI on Wednesday arrested at least five Muslim youths in connection with lynching of four ex-BLT cadres on July 19, which triggered off violence in BTC.
Though, the mastermind of the incident was still at large, security sources said that arrested youths who are the member of All Bodoland Muslim Students Union, have confessed their involvement in to the incident of lynching of four ex-BLT cadres.
