8 batch of 3,183 pilgrims leave for Amarnath

Braving heavy rains, the eighth batch of 3,183 pilgrims on Thursday left the Jammu base camp for their onward journey to the 13,500-feet high cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir Himalayas.

The pilgrims, including 886 women and 66 children, left in a cavalcade of 101 vehicles from Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu at around 0500 hours for Amarnath, the police said.

The convoy escorted by CRPF, left here, amid heavy rains in the morning.

With Thursday’s batch, as many as 26,078 pilgrims have left Jammu in eight batches for their onward journey to Amarnath.
