8 MLAs keep their distance from Jagan
The MLAs who have pledged support to YSR Congress chief and Kadapa MP Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy seem to be keeping their options open.
While it is certain that at least five of the 29 MLAs who had pledged support to Jagan Mohan Reddy are coming back to the Congress fold, some others might also follow suit.
Interestingly, prominent Jagan supporter, MLA Sesha Reddy of the Anaparthy assembly seat, addressed the media on Thursday and supported Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy.
Announcing that he would remain in the Co-ngress throughout his life, he said that he had supported Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy because the people of his constituency had wanted him to do so. He, however, gave the same reason for coming back to the party stating that his constituency now wanted him to support the Chief Minister for the sake of developmental works.
On Thursday, only 20 Jagan MLAs attended the seven-hour-long meeting at the YSR Congress headquarters to discuss the party’s future.
Jagan MLAs non-committal on no-trust
The 20 MLAs who attended the seven-hour-long meeting at the YSR Congress headquarters, did not say anything about bringing pressure on the Speaker to accept their resignations submitted earlier.
In fact, almost all of them have met the Speaker and requested him not to accept their resignations.
Sources also said that most of these 20 MLAs had pledged their support to Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy separately.
After the meeting, the MLAs were also non-committal about the no-confidence motion that the TD is likely to sponsor in the upcoming Assembly Winter Session.
The only silver lining for Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy was that Jammalamadugu MLA C. Adinarayana Reddy, who had earlier declared that they would not dislodge the Kiran Kumar Reddy government, attended Thursday’s meeting. The group claimed that of the nine who were absent, two were supporting Jagan Mohan Reddy.
It was also clear that of the remaining seven, at least five MLAs, including Mr Alla Nani and Ms Jayasudha, would support Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy.
The MLA’s were clearly in two minds about whether to support the No-Confidence Motion or not. Nellore MP Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy who had supposedly presided over Thursday’s meeting told reporters that there would be a lot of changes if the TD was sincere about bringing the No-Confidence Motion against the Congress government.
He added that the Jagan MLAs would raise several issues in the Assembly including the farmers’ problems as well as the schemes launched by YSR which were now being buried by the government.
