84 Nellore tourists safe in Uttarakhand
Nellore: All the 84 tourists belonging to Nellore district, stranded at various places in Uttarkashi district or Uttarakhand following incessant rains and landslips from last three days, are safe.
Speaking to the media on Monday, District Collector B.Sreedhar said he spoke to some of them about their wellbeing. He said the administration has sought the assistance of Uttarakhand government to shift them to safer places, if necessary.
A control room has been established at the Collectorate in Nellore to assist the relatives of those marooned in Uttarakhand. The control room telephone numbers are: 0861 2331477 and 0861 2331261.Those in need of any information on their kin stuck in Uttarakhand may call these numbers, he said.
According to the Collector, 54 people belonging to Nellore, Buchireddypalem, Gandavaram and Kovur mandals have been stranded at Doonda village located 15 kms away from Uttarkahi. They are staying in a school and one of them, Subba Rao, former principal of GVR College, Nellore, told the Collector that they are safe when the latter contacted him over phone.
Similarly 24 persons belonging to the district are put up at Hariom hotel at Uttarkasi and they are being taken care by Rao Travellers.Similarly six persons belonging to two families in the district are stuck at Barakoot in Uttarakhand and they are also comfortably placed.
Meanwhile, Delhi based Rao’s travels also offered assistance and guidance to tourists from AP if they are stuck in and around Uttarkashi through their base camp located in the same city.
