AC low floor buses from Kochi airport
Kochi: KSRTC has responded positively to the Cochin airport authority’s request for starting bus services to Northern Kerala for the benefit of air passengers. How-ever, due to non-availability of buses, it will take a while to begin the services.
Cochin International Airport Ltd had asked KSRTC to start low-floor bus services to destinations like Thrissur during the recent monthly co-ordination committee meeting. Currently, air passengers from the northern parts find it difficult to commute.
“A feasibility report has been preparedand sent to the headquarters. We’re positive about starting the service. The airport has asked for AC low-floor buses. Currently there is no bus we can spare. We’re waiting for delivery of two new buses (AC low-floor) under the JnNURM scheme,” a top official said.
As per the report, there is a sizeable commuter population flying out of Nedumbassery airport from the cultural capital region. CIAL suggests deploym-ent of services to Thris-sur, similar to the successful Fort Kochi-Air-port service, during peak hours.
Meanwhile, the corporation is thinking of temporarily diverting its AC low-floor service to Nilambur via airport to cater to the needs of the north-bound bound commuters.
