Accused shops in mall, with cops
The police is investigating how an accused brought to the sessions court was found shopping in a nearby mall with a police escort in tow. CCTV footage from the mall revealed that the police escort was not part of the team that brought the accused to court, but from a different unit that was not involved.
The additional commissioner of the local arms division, Mr Vijay Chavan, on Saturday said strict action has been initiated against police official Santosh Bhosale, who had accompanied Devidas Sakpal, an accused in the Lakhan Bhaiyya murder case, to the mall next to the sessions court.
On November 19, accused Sakpal was spotted shopping in a mall during court hours. When the prosecution questioned Sakpal, he denied the allegations.
“Bhosale was not a member of the escort party which had accompanied the accused to the court. The escort team which accompanied the accused on November 19 was attached with local arms, Naigaon. Bhosale, however, is attached with local arms, Marol. Hence we have taken strict action against him so that it sets an example for others and they will never attempt such an act and embarrass the police team,” said Mr Chavan.
“We all were shocked to see those news reports. We asked for CCTV footage from the mall and I personally looked into the matter. When I checked the CCTV footage, police escort Bhosale was clearly seen. We have taken strict action against him,” the additional commissioner added.
